Konkona gets into ethnic-versus-western clothes battle?
Konkona Sen Sharma was miffed by suggestions that she carries ethnic clothes better than Western creations; finally has her way

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 11, 2010)

Konkona Sen Sharma got into a tiff with the production designer of Neeraj Pathak’s Right Yaa Wrong, Ranjana Tiwari, over the choice of clothes her character wears in the film.

The bone of contention was that Ranjana felt that since Konkona has a very Indian body, she would look better in salwaar kameez, churidar kurtas and sarees. “But Konkona insisted on donning kurtas and pants,” says a source. “When she learnt that Ranjana wanted her to wear something that she didn’t want to wear, she called up Punit Agarwal (of Mukta Arts). Agarwal then called up Ranjana to ask why she was pressing the issue.”

When contacted, Ranjana confirmed that she would have preferred if Konkona had worn more Indian dresses in Right Yaaa Wrong. “I even suggested that Konkona could wear some nice sarees. She is a very pretty girl. She should not insist on Western clothes and follow the herd for no reason.” Despite repeated text messages, Konkona remained unavailable for comment.

Sonam’s appeal to R R Patil
Massakali girl Sonam Kapoor has appealed to Home Minister RR Patil to ban the killer manjha kite thread in Maharashtra

By Kunal M Shah (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 11, 2010)

Sonam Kapoor charmed everyone with her song Massakali in Delhi-6. For Sonam, it wasn’t just a melodious song, she also developed something of a bond with the pigeon in it during the shooting of the film.

So when Sonam learnt about the number of birds getting wounded and killed due to the glass coated thread or manjha used in kite flying, she has written a letter to Home Minister RR Patil requesting him to ban the use of manjha in the state.

In the letter, Sonam says, “As a way to help protect both human and animal lives, I humbly request your support for the recent ban on manjha in Mumbai as well as your immediate action to extend the ban throughout Maharashtra.”

Sonam also expressed shock over the number of deaths – including human casualties – during festivals like Makar Sankranti. The actor was shocked to learn that a boy in Mumbai almost lost his life due to glass-coated manjha.

“A youth was nearly decapitated by a manjha string while riding his bicycle. Such needless loss of life has moved me to take action for the sake of humans and birds alike. The use of manjha may be a source of entertainment for some, but for many families – human and bird – who lose their loved ones, it is a tragedy,” Kapoor further said in her letter. Is anyone listening?

Akshay embarked on a daily helicopter ride?
Akshay wanted to return home to his son everyday from Malsej, Farah arranged for a daily helicopter ride

By Vickey Lalwani (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 11, 2010)

Farah Khan is shooting with Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in Malshej Ghat for Tees Maar Khan, and decided to take her triplets to the 21-day shoot with her.

But the shoot in the ghats is turning out to be an expensive proposition for her. Akshay Kumar has decided he wants to be with his son as well, but in Mumbai.

Akshay declined to stay in Malshej Ghat and said that he would like to return home every day. Farah argued, “I have brought three small kids all the way from Mumbai. Why can’t you stay on?” But Akshay refused to budge.

Like a true friend, Farah arranged a helicopter for him which would take him to the shoot every day and also bring him back. “Akshay told her that he did not want to be away from his son, Aarav, for so long. Farah, being a mother, understood his feelings,” said a source.

Farah’s official spokesperson confirmed the news.

UTV the new producer of Tees Maar Khan?
Farah Khan and Akshay Kumar have dumped truant Ashtavinayak, the buzz is that now UTV is the producer of Tees Maar Khan

By Sonal Chawla (MUMBAI MIRROR; March 11, 2010)

Farah Khan’s Tees Maar Khan has changed hands without much change in the budget. Trade sources says that the film has a new producer on board – UTV. Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd will no more be producing the film.

A source reveals, “Tees Maar Khan had found buyers even before they had started shooting the film. Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd had bought the film for Rs 48 crore. A signing amount was given to the makers and they started shooting.

The remaining amount was to be given by cheque.”

The source continues, “After the shoot started, the production team started calling Ashtavinayak for the remaining amount. It kept getting postponed. After trying several times, they finally gave up.

Last week Farah Khan, Shirish Kunder and Akshay Kumar had a meeting amongst themselves and decided to get a new producer. They fixed up a meeting with Ronnie Screwvala and UTV came on board.”

The new arrangement is suiting everyone except perhaps Ashtavinayak. “UTV is the new producer of Tees Maar Khan. Ashtavinayak was not informed but are now aware of the fact. UTV has signed the movie for a much higher amount than what Ashtavinayak had promised,” adds the source.

The spokesperson for Ashtavinayak refused to comment on the issue. Farah is presently shooting at Malshej Ghat, and her spokesperson says, “At this point of time, we can neither confirm nor deny anything.”

SRK welcomes Akon in style
SRK charmed one and all with his inimitable wit and charm while welcoming rap icon Akon to India

By TNN; March 10, 2010

Shah Rukh Khan never disappoints. Even as he kept the media waiting for about two hours, the king of Bollywood made up for the delay and wooed the audience with his non-stop wit and charm.

He decided to welcome the international rap singer Akon in a traditional manner and showered him with flowers, whereas his heroine of Ra. One Kareena Kapoor put ‘tikka’ on his forehead and garlanded him. And when Shahrukh noticed that flummoxed look on Akon, he quipped with a dimpled smile, “In India, once the actress garlands you, you are married to the hero.” And when a member of the press pointed out that how all three of them wore black and white, Shahrukh remarked, “Now that we are married we will be coordinating clothes as well.”

Shah Rukh met Akon for the first time in New York, “and I became his big fan,” said the star, looking boyish in black T-shirt and jeans with short gelled hair. By introducing Akon, Shah Rukh Khan ‘kickstarted his production’ Ra. One, a superhero flick touted to be a 100-crore extravaganza which will be directed by Anubhav Sinha. “Don’t ask too many questions or too many details as we don’t know what we are making. And ask only funny questions to Akon, he doesn’t know anything,” said Shahrukh good humoredly.

However, he decided to give out some details such as him playing the character by the name Jeevan who has the power of solidifying electricity. “Now I can’t give out any more than this,” said the actor-filmmaker. “Yes, you will see me flying in a body suit and I will wear my underwear outside,” he laughed, talking about his attire in the film.

When asked whether he expects any controversy to happen since Mani Ratnam’s Abhishek-Ash starrer is called Ravana, and both the film names sound similar, Shahrukh’s clever reply was, “If you don’t create a controvery it won’t happen.” He further added, “And that film is the modern version of the epic whereas this is a superhero.”

At his diplomatic best, Shah Rukh Khan termed the earlier superhero films – Hrithik-starrer Krrish, and Abhishek’s Drona as wonderful, and moved on to say that he was trying the genre for the first time. “Not many superhero films have been made. This is going to be a little different. There is a superhero, a good guy, a bad guy and a beautiful girl. But it is certainly not a kiddie film,” he clarified.

Akon, who will be singing as well as composing for Ra.One, said that India is his next main focus and has decided to give different versions and options of music for the makers to select from. “I have got a lot of support and my goal is to be part of the Indian environment,” said the singer who is most eager to start work here.

“He refuses to party, we have to literally force him. He only wants to know when he goes to the studio and start work,” said Shah Rukh, who clarified that there was no business deal between them. “Akon is just being gracious. Unlike me, who charges for everything (winks), there is no business deal between us,” said the actor tongue-in-cheek.

There are also talks of Akon singing for Shah Rukh’s IPL team. “I would love to have him sing for Kareena as well (laughs) not only for my cricket team, but at present it is only the film. He will do lots of songs and will do some Hindi lines as well,” said Shah Rukh, who fielded the question sportingly when asked whether he was following his rival Akshay Kumar in getting international stars to sing for his film. “I am just a follower, I never set a trend,” he remarked, with a tinge of sarcasm.

And the meet ended with Akon singing few lines from his famous song, Beautiful on Kareena’s request. And the superstar while pretending to hold a guitar, sang, “I always wanted to be a rock star…”
